Is NHP a mandatory program?

It is a voluntary program to help nurses get the help they need to recover from substance use and/or mental health disorders.

How will NHP help me?

There are many ways that NHP can help you, from providing resources to developing and supporting you through a support and monitoring plan to help nurses return to safe practice.

How long is the program?

The length of the program varies depending on your needs. The program length is based on best practices and recommendations of the assessor and care providers

Am I able to continue my nursing practice while participating in NHP?
If you are practicing at the time of enrolment you may continue working unless NHP identifies potential risk to safe practice and you have been advised by NHP not to work. Should this happen, your case manager will discuss why you can’t work and how you will be able to return to practice.
What services does NHP pay for and what services do I pay for?

Your program-related costs will vary depending on your needs. Your case manager will explain specific costs — such as lab tests — and how they are covered. You will not be charged for the NHP case management services or any independent medical examinations requested by the program.

My employer has questions about the program. Who should they call?

Your employer can contact NHP directly to learn more about the program or click here to read our employer guide.

What should I do if I am in crisis and I cannot reach my case manager?

If you are experiencing a crisis, please contact 911, your local crisis line, or go to your local hospital for assistance. Once your crisis has been addressed, your case manager will assist you in accessing resources you may need.
